National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA)
The National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) of Uruguay was established in 1989 and is the country’s leading national institution for agricultural research and innovation. Its history can be traced back to the La Estanzuela Experimental Station founded in 1914, giving it more than a century of experience in agricultural research. INIA operates a network of regional experimental stations across Uruguay, covering areas such as livestock production systems, pasture management, sustainable agriculture, and crop genetic improvement. The institute holds a leading position in Uruguay in research on livestock systems and sustainable agriculture.
